Directory Listings The Good and The Bad, things To Know Before you Outsource Directory Listings.

We know how important backlinks from a directory listing are for small businesses. Getting links from directory listings is as easy as taking candy from a baby. Because of this fact that directory listing backlinks have become so easy, some listing agents have slowly become complacent over the years.
Now the objective of some SEO’s and listing agents is more on getting the link and not building a proper NAP and posting a compliant citation.
The problem we see is that small businesses hire these listing providers, but some business owners have no idea about the quality of work they do.

So, are you serious about your directory listing, or are you just looking for a backlink? Two types of people post business listings, the ones that are hoping to score a link and don’t care much about the business reputation. These people are so focused on getting a index backlink, nothing else matters.

The other is someone that knows what they are doing and will take the time and effort to create and post a proper business listing and citation.

So witch one are you? It all depends on who you hire to do the work.
If you hire a reputable company that knows the importance of a proper listing, you should get good results. Chances are, you would never have to hire a pro to clean up your mess.
A quality listing will reinforce the credibility of a business and increase visibility and authority.

A Poorly created listing Dose More Harm Than Good.

As a business owner, you need to take the time and review all your listing. if you find discrepancies you need to take care of it as soon as possible.

Most business owners are not savvy about the ins and outs of SEO and business listings and will outsource that job to someone else.
The problem we see with directory listings the good and the bad ones are that most small business owners will hire SEO agencies, and in turn, these agencies, in some cases, will outsource the job of posting directory listings to the cheapest person they can find.

They will go to places like Fiverr and Upwork and hire someone to do the job. There is something to be said about the phrase; “you get what you pay for”. You can find a lot of excellent freelancers on any of those market places. Before you hire someone from an online marketplace for freelance services, make sure they know what is required of them. Your business reputation depends on it.

It’s important to take the time to optimize your directory listing to the best of your ability.
The information you post on the internet should be taken seriously. It is not a joke. Your business reputation depends on it.

A listing that does not have proper information about a business reflects poorly on that business.
Even worse, search engines and prospective customers rely on directory listings to learn more about the business, and what they see will affect their decision to visit or not.

Search engines are less likely to increase your credibility and trust factor in search. The bottom line is, you will not get any benefits from a poor listing.
