It looks like days are numbered for a lavish mansion that stands tall in Toronto’s Bridle Path. The property at 42 Park Lane Circle last hit the market in September 2020 and sold for a tidy $15.48M just five months later (after listing for $18M, mind you), but it’s now set to be demolished according to a permit issued by the City on February 28.

The permit reveals that the current owners are looking to swap the sprawling, two-and-a-half-storey abode for a new single-family home that’s just two storeys, “clad in stone,” and will include an indoor basketball court, an indoor pool, and a basement walkout. Permits for the new building itself, mechanical, and plumbing have all been issued as of the end of last month.

Although one can only imagine that whatever the current homeowners have planned for the prestigious plot of land will be grand — this is the Bridle Path, after all, which is lined with Toronto’s flashiest mansions and is colloquially known as ‘where Drake lives’ — the existing property sets the bar quite high.

It boasts no less than 19,000 sq. ft, eight bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and three kitchens (you know what they say, you can never have too many kitchens), as well as an enormous ballroom with a wet bar and a guest suite with a private entrance.

There’s also already a tennis court on the lush, two-acre ravine lot (which happens to be one of just a few in the area).

From a design standpoint, the home is nothing short of a show-stopper, decked out to the nines in glamorous Venetian-style features and fixtures like arched entryways, french doors, marble fireplaces, chandeliers dripping in crystals, coffered and hand-painted ceilings, and a dramatic porte-cochère to boot.

This is all to say that 42 Park Lane Circle is a true real estate gem — for as long as it’s still standing, that is. Take a virtual walk-through here.
